ANVISA Food Registration

For commercialization throughout the national territory, foods must be registered or must have their manufacturing communication formalized with the Sanitary Surveillance.

The categories that require registration are:

• New foods and new ingredients (Resolution no. 16/1999 and Resolution no. 17/1999)
• Foods with functional and/or health property claims (Resolution no. 18/1999 and Resolution no. 19/1999)
• Children’s food (RDC no. 42/2011, RDC no. 43/2011, RDC no. 44/2011, RDC no. 45/2011, Ordinance no. 34/1998, Ordinance no. 36/1998, Law no. 11.265/2006, Decree no. 8.552/2015 and RDC no. 222/2002)
• Formulas for enteral nutrition (RDC no. 21/2015 and RDC no. 22/2015)
• Packaging with new recycled technologies (food grade PET-PCR regulated by the RDC no. 20/2008)

Food supplements containing enzymes or probiotics (RDC no. 43/2018 and IN no. 28/2018)

PHASES:

1. Technical product evaluation and category verification;
2. Company Registration with ANVISA (for importing companies and companies that will have registered products). National companies that manufacture and do not have registered products only need to be registered with the local health surveillance;
3. Preparation of the technical file for registered products. For imported products exempt from registration, we prepare the import notice with the local sanitary surveillance;
4. Product registration.
